Technical Insulation Design – Advanced Expert Training

EiiF, in co-operation with FIW München, offers an advanced onsite training based on the updated EN ISO 12241 and VDI 2055 Part 1 standards for insulation experts who are required to perform thermal calculations. This training familiarises participants with the latest updates of EN ISO 12241 and VDI 2055 Part 1, provides in-depth training on EN ISO 23993, and explains how to apply Insulation Energy Efficiency Classes using EN 17956.
The 2-day course is designed for high-level insulation experts – and for experienced engineers aiming to further increase their level of insulation expertise.
Thermal calculations are the backbone of high-quality insulation design. The latest updates of EN ISO 12241 and VDI 2055 Part 1 deliver a more precise calculation methodology than previous versions. Consequently, thermal calculations have become more complex and technically demanding. This EiiF Academy advanced technical training, in co-operation with FIW München, enables participants to fully understand the physics behind heat transfer and to correctly apply the new calculation rules in daily insulation specification and engineering practice.

Day 1 – Heat Transfer Fundamentals & Design Parameters
- Calculation rules and formulae of heat transfer (EN ISO / VDI framework)
- Thermal bridges: impact, assessment, and practical relevance
- Assumptions, boundary conditions, and typical calculation pitfalls
Day 2 – Applying EN ISO 12241 in Practice
- Heat transfer on uninsulated equipment
- Storage tanks and large surfaces
- Steam pipes and high-temperature systems
- Underground pipelines (district heating pipes)
- Systems with changing temperatures
