Stop Importing Energy - Europe is Wasting

07 May 2026

Did you know that Europe imports around 120 TWh of LNG from Qatar every year?
Energy shipped thousands of kilometres through increasingly unstable geopolitical regions - paid for by us Europeans - only to be wasted again in industry on uninsulated and poorly insulated equipment.

Honestly… this makes no sense anymore.

-> Let’s stop this useless waste.
-> And let’s stop waiting.

50 years after the oil crisis, saving energy is at least as important today as it was back then.

The good news:
We are ready to deliver: EiiF members confirm that increasing industrial insulation activity by 10–20% immediately is feasible and sufficient technical insulation material is available.
And best of all, Europe already has a harmonised energy efficiency standard for industrial insulation systems: EN 17956.

So, what are we waiting for?
Let’s:
✔ scale up TIPCHECK insulation scans across European industry
✔ insulate uninsulated equipment immediately
✔ stop the energy waste of tomorrow - by setting the standard today

If all ETS-listed production sites in Europe simply insulated:
• at least 10% of identified uninsulated equipment
or even just
• 50 uninsulated valves each
…Europe could already save around 5 TWh before the next winter.

And this is only the beginning.
The new EiiF White Paper 2026 presents a practical 4-pillar action plan showing how Europe can achieve annual savings of 120 TWh by improving industrial insulation systems.

Because honestly: If not now - when do we finally stop importing and paying for energy we are not even using in Europe but losing?
