By signing the open letter to EU leaders organised by CAN Europe, EiiF is among the 130+ strong coalition consisting of civil society organisations, academics and businesses urging the EU to deliver a domestic and ambitious 2040 climate target, and opposing the inclusion of international carbon credits into the EU’s 2040 target and NDC.
Including such credits would:
🔻 Weaken domestic climate ambition
🕒 Delay the green transition
🤝 Undermine Europe’s credibility and leadership
⚠️ Carry major environmental and human rights risks
💸 Drain public resources from necessary domestic investment
The EU has the capacity and responsibility to cut emissions at home. It’s time to lead by example with a science-aligned, domestic 2040 target of at least 90% net reductions.
